The Frame Continuum is an independent research initiative exploring the structures through which we understand, interpret, and act upon the world.

It develops research programmes, frameworks, analytical methods, and applications for making underlying structures more visible.

Many of the difficulties we encounter are not simply problems of missing information. They can arise from the structures through which information is organised, interpreted, and acted upon.

The Frame Continuum exists to investigate these structures and explore whether making them visible can provide new ways of understanding complex situations and expanding human agency.

TECHNOLOGY
AI and Human Co-Existence

AI and Human Co-Existence

AI is increasingly affecting all aspects of human activity, including work, creativity, communication, how we consume, the way we learn and think, and this change is happening at an unprecedented rate never before experienced.

TFC interest: How to navigate these changes to ensure AI enhances, rather than diminishes, human agency?

CONSTRAINTS
Constraints and Patterns

Constraints and Patterns

Patterns appear across natural, social, and human-made systems, but patterns do not exist independently of the conditions that sustain them. Constraints can limit what a system can become while also making particular configurations and behaviours possible.

TFC interest: How do constraints shape the patterns that emerge within a system, and what happens when those constraints change?

SCALE
Scaling and Organisation

Scaling and Organisation

Scaling changes the conditions under which a system operates. Increasing the number of components, expanding capacity, or extending a system's reach can create opportunities that did not previously exist.

TFC interest: Is there a relation between organisational growth in natural, social, and human-made systems?

AGENCY
Human Agency

Human Agency

Agency is the capacity to perceive, interpret, navigate, influence, and adapt within constraints while preserving coherence, reversibility, and meaningful feedback access across time.

TFC interest: What constitutes human agency, and how does it differ from the ability to make choices?

The Missing Frame, a publication from The Frame Continuum, examines the hidden assumptions, reference points, and structural relationships that shape how we think, decide, and make sense of complexity.

Its articles revisit familiar explanations of everyday experiences and ideas, examine the assumptions behind them, and explore what becomes visible when we look at them differently.
